Rare 19th Century, Anglo Indian, walnut Campaign Settle.
This versitile piece of furniture would have travelled all over the world, made for the '1st Class' traveller.
As shown, an original shipping label remains, with the inscription: 'Mary J Hudson February 13th 1935' . If you decided to make a trip via a grand ocean liner, luggage labels were created in order to keep track of all the luggage / furniture being brought on-board (trains typically used tags). They tended to indicate the class of cabin for the traveller, as well as as the destination of the ship and would have been full of the passengers clothing and possessions.
Original hand forged handles are still intact on each side and would enable easier loading on board.
Wonderfully carved spindles and brass detailed collars supporting the upper finials. Four, usable, deep drawers, the upper of which are sectioned in two.
Newly upholstered, removable cushion. This item would work really well in a hallway.

Height - 119 cm ( To the top of the finial )
Width - 138 cm
Depth - 63.5 cm
Seat Height - 76 cm ( to the top of the cushion )
