A wonderful example of a pair of antique Cutler Stools from Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
Fantastic colour and wear from years of use, these are unique to the Sheffield cutlery and silver industry and were made by workers themselves from the late 18th Century onwards. These examples from the 19th Century are shown with old old rose headed nails to pin the stretcher to the leg.
The cutler would make the stools for their own height and use the off cuts from their bench to create their own bespoke seat. No two are the same and have a very primitive look. Very sturdy, would also make great side tables.
